*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
#Oxfordshire
Farmoor Reservoir’s water temperatures vary through the year, with surface readings typically around 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter, 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) in spring, 14–22 °C (57–72 °F) in summer and 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) in autumn. Like many shallow reservoirs, temperatures can change quickly with sunshine and wind, and deeper or sheltered areas remain colder. These seasonal ranges mean the warmest, most comfortable swimming conditions are usually confined to late summer when temperatures approach the upper end of the range.
Swimming at Farmoor is not universally permitted in the same way as managed lidos; the site is a working water supply and there are safety and water-quality reasons why the water company and local authorities discourage unsupervised bathing. Nevertheless, organised open-water swimming groups operate there under controlled conditions and informal wild swimmers do visit. Beyond swimming, the area offers birdwatching and a nature reserve, pleasant riverside walks and cycle routes, and convenient access to Oxford’s historic centre for visitors wanting a broader day out.
