** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Eagle Creek Reservoir, the large impoundment within Eagle Creek Park near Indianapolis, follows the seasonal temperature patterns typical of Midwestern lakes. In summer the surface often warms into the mid-70s to low-80s °F (about 24–28 °C) on warm, sunny days, though deeper water stays notably cooler. Spring sees a wide swing as the lake moves from near-freezing runoff and cool nights into the 50s–60s °F (10–16 °C) during daytime warming. Autumn brings gradual cooling back into the 50s–60s °F (10–16 °C) before ice formation; in winter surface temperatures approach freezing around 32 °F (0 °C) and may form ice depending on weather, with subsurface water remaining a few degrees above freezing.
Swimming in Eagle Creek Reservoir is not permitted under park rules, so it is not a sanctioned swim beach. Restrictions are in place partly because of boating and sailing traffic, variable water quality and safety conditions, and the absence of lifeguard supervision; portions of the reservoir are also managed for fishing and as recreational water access rather than designated bathing areas. Those seeking water-based recreation at Eagle Creek Park typically use designated boating launches, fishing spots, or other nearby facilities that provide supervised swimming or safer shore access.
