*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Deer Creek Lake in Ohio experiences a wide seasonal swing in surface water temperature. In spring, as air temps recover, surface readings commonly range from about 45 to 65°F (7 to 18°C). Summer brings the warmest conditions, with typical surface temperatures between roughly 70 and 85°F (21 to 29°C) in open water and occasional warm shallows that can approach the low 90s°F (around 32°C) on heat waves. During autumn the lake cools back to roughly 50 to 70°F (10 to 21°C) as stratification breaks down, and in winter surface temperatures often sit near freezing, commonly 32 to 40°F (0 to 4°C) with portions of the reservoir liable to ice cover in sustained cold spells.
Swimming at Deer Creek is generally allowed in designated areas managed by the state park and other authorities, primarily for safety and water-quality monitoring reasons. Lifeguarded beaches and marked swim zones are usually open in summer, while unrestricted open-water swimming is discouraged because of boat traffic, changing currents, submerged hazards, and variable visibility. Cold-season swimming or entering thin ice is unsafe. As always, visitors should follow posted rules, check current advisories for water quality and staffing, and respect seasonal closures to reduce risk.
