The Blakytni Ozera (Blue Lakes) near Oleshnya in Chernihiv Oblast are former sand quarry lakes filled with clear water, surrounded by pine forest. Because some of the lakes are quite deep, the water tends to stay fresh, but during hot summer days the surface warms up well. In July and August, temperatures often reach around 20-24°C in shallow areas, which is comfortable for swimming, while the deeper parts usually remain cooler.
Swimming here is popular and enjoyable, especially in the middle of summer when the water is at its warmest. The lakes have beaches and recreation spots, and the water is noted for its clarity and light turquoise shade, making it especially inviting. At the start of the season or during cooler evenings, the temperature can still feel a bit chilly, so the most pleasant swimming conditions are usually from mid-July onward.
