*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Big Island Pond in New Hampshire follows the familiar seasonal temperature pattern of small to medium New England lakes. After ice-out in spring the surface water typically ranges from roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C), warming through late spring and early summer to about 68–78°F (20–26°C) in most open-water areas. Shallow bays and warm spells can push surface temperatures toward 80°F (27°C), while deeper water remains cooler year-round, often in the 40–55°F (4–13°C) range because of thermal stratification. By autumn the surface cools back toward 50–60°F (10–16°C) before freeze-up, and in winter the pond is at or near 32°F (0°C) under ice.
Swimming at Big Island Pond is commonly done during the ice‑free months because summer surface temperatures are generally comfortable for recreational bathing and public or private access points exist around the shoreline. However, local rules, posted signs, and property boundaries govern where swimming is permitted, and cold or rapidly changing conditions (early spring, late fall, or near ice) make swimming unsafe. As with any lake, water depth, clarity, weather, and the presence of lifeguards or facilities should be considered before entering the water.
