** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Quinsigamond’s surface water temperatures vary considerably through the year. In winter the lake typically hovers around freezing to the low 40s Fahrenheit (about 0–4 °C) and can develop ice cover in sustained cold spells. Spring sees a steady rise, with waters commonly ranging from the low 40s to the low 60s °F (4–16 °C) as air temperatures warm. By summer, surface temperatures generally warm to roughly the upper 60s to upper 70s °F (20–26 °C), with occasional warm spells pushing parts of the surface toward 80 °F (about 27 °C). In autumn the lake cools again, usually falling into the 50s and lower 60s °F (10–17 °C) before winter chill returns. Deeper areas remain notably colder year-round and near-shore shallows warm and cool more rapidly than the main basin.
Swimming is allowed in appropriate, designated areas when local authorities and park managers permit it, but conditions and restrictions vary. Public beaches or entry points that are open for recreation will post rules and sometimes provide lifeguards during peak season; otherwise swimming is at one’s own risk. Water-quality advisories for algal blooms, safety concerns during regattas and heavy boat traffic, and seasonal closures can affect whether swimming is advisable on any given day, so checking current notices from local health or parks departments is recommended.
