*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Massabesic, which functions as a municipal reservoir in southern New Hampshire, experiences the expected seasonal swings in surface water temperature for the region. In spring the lake often runs cold, roughly 35–55°F (2–13°C) as ice melts and cool runoff enters the basin. By summer surface temperatures commonly climb into the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (18–24°C), and on warm, calm days shallow areas can reach the upper 70s °F (25–26°C). Fall brings a steady cooling back toward the 40s–60s °F range (4–16°C) as the lake mixes, while winter conditions drop the surface to around freezing (32°F / 0°C), with ice cover likely and deeper waters remaining colder, often in the 40s °F (4–9°C) year-round.
Swimming on Lake Massabesic is generally not permitted in many parts because the lake serves as a primary drinking-water supply for Manchester and surrounding areas; restrictions are aimed at protecting water quality and public health. Even where informal access exists, users should be aware of safety concerns such as cold water shock, sudden depth changes and the absence of lifeguards. For recreation, visitors are advised to check local water-utility and town regulations before planning any water-based activities.
