** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Maranacook Lake in central Maine follows a familiar seasonal pattern for northern temperate lakes. Surface temperatures in summer typically rise into the upper 60s to mid-70s °F (about 20–24 °C), with shallow bays sometimes getting a few degrees warmer on hot, calm days. By late spring the lake commonly measures in the mid-40s to mid-50s °F (7–13 °C) as it stratifies, and in autumn surface readings fall back through the 50s to 40s °F (10–7 °C) during cooling. In winter the lake is at or near freezing at the surface (32 °F, 0 °C) where ice forms; deeper water remains colder but above freezing. Deeper parts of Maranacook can stay noticeably cooler than the surface throughout the year.
Swimming is generally allowed at Maranacook Lake because it is a recreational freshwater body with public access and shoreline use, but visitors should take routine precautions. Local water-quality monitoring occasionally issues advisories, and warm summer conditions can produce localized algal blooms, so checking current conditions is wise. Cold-water shock can be a hazard in spring and late fall, and ice cover in winter makes swimming unsafe. Lifeguards are not typically present, so swimmers should be cautious about boat traffic, weather changes, and consistent supervision for children.
