** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Clyde, one of Scotland’s most iconic waterways, flows from the Southern Uplands through Glasgow and into the Firth of Clyde on the west coast. Its water temperature reflects the cool maritime climate of the region and the mix of freshwater and tidal influences along its lower course. In winter, the Clyde typically measures between 4 and 6°C (39–43°F), remaining cold and fast-flowing. By spring, the temperature slowly rises to around 8–10°C (46–50°F), while in midsummer, July and August, it can reach 14–16°C (57–61°F) in calmer sections. As autumn approaches, the water cools again to about 10–12°C (50–54°F), staying brisk throughout most of the year. Even in summer, the Clyde tends to feel colder than inland rivers because of its proximity to the sea.
Swimming in the River Clyde is generally not recommended within urban or industrial areas due to strong currents, variable water quality, and boat traffic. However, in rural upper sections near its source and in some tidal bays along the Firth of Clyde, experienced wild swimmers occasionally enjoy short dips during the warmer months. Most visitors prefer safer recreation like kayaking or coastal walks. The Clyde’s surroundings include Glasgow’s riverside landmarks, the scenic Ayrshire coast, and ferry routes to the western Scottish isles.
