** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Covilhã (Portuguese: Covilhã) sits on the southern slopes of Serra da Estrela in the Castelo Branco District and is surrounded by a mix of small reservoirs and mountain lakes. Because of the elevation and the influence of mountain runoff, surface water temperatures tend to be cool. Typical seasonal ranges for lakes and reservoirs near Covilhã are roughly 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter, about 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) in spring, commonly 18–24 °C (64–75 °F) at the warmest points in summer on sheltered, shallow waters, and 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in autumn. Mountain tarns and deeper reservoirs usually remain on the colder side of these bands even in hot summers.
Swimming is possible in some local water bodies but is subject to local rules, water-quality monitoring and safety considerations. Designated bathing areas, when available, will be signposted and sometimes supervised; elsewhere swimming can be discouraged because of cold-water shock, sudden depth changes, submerged hazards, restricted access for hydroelectric or irrigation reservoirs, and variable water quality. Visitors should check municipal signage and local guidance before entering the water and be mindful of hypothermia risk even in summer at higher elevations.
