** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sabugal is a municipality in Portugal’s Guarda District known for its castle, rolling hills and freshwater reservoirs on tributaries of the Côa and Mondego basins. The local lake or dam reservoirs near Sabugal typically show marked seasonal variation in surface temperature. In winter the water is often cool, roughly 6–10 °C (43–50 °F); spring warms to about 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) as air temperatures rise; summer surface temperatures commonly reach 18–25 °C (64–77 °F) on sunny afternoons; and autumn sees a decline back toward 12–18 °C (54–64 °F). These are broad ranges: actual readings vary with depth, recent weather, inflows and reservoir management, so spot measurements can differ from seasonal averages.
Swimming in the Sabugal reservoirs is possible and frequently undertaken in the warmer months, but it is not uniformly supervised. Some stretches are open for recreational use because the water bodies serve leisure and local tourism; other areas may be fenced off or formally restricted due to water-supply infrastructure, changing water levels, submerged hazards or local regulations. Water quality monitoring and signage determine permitted access, and swimmers should be aware of the absence of lifeguards, cold-water risks in shoulder seasons and sudden depth changes. It is advisable to follow local guidance before entering the water.
