*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Sigulda (in Latvian - Sigulda) sits on the Gauja River valley and near several small lakes whose water temperatures follow a clear seasonal pattern. In spring, lake temperatures typically rise from near freezing to about 2–10 °C (36–50 °F) as ice melts and air warms. During summer months lakes commonly hold between 17–22 °C (63–72 °F), with warm spells pushing surface temperatures toward 24–25 °C (75–77 °F) on sunny, calm days. In early autumn water cools to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) and by winter lakes are often at or just above freezing, 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), frequently forming ice cover.
Swimming in Sigulda’s lakes and in parts of the Gauja River is generally permitted in the warmer season but is subject to local rules, water-quality monitoring and safety signage; designated beaches with lifeguards or posted approvals are the safest options. Authorities may close bathing areas for reasons such as bacterial contamination, algal blooms, strong currents or unsafe shore conditions. Winter swimming or ice bathing is practiced by some enthusiasts but requires careful checks of ice thickness and local guidance because naturally freezing water and river currents can create hazardous conditions. Always follow municipal warnings and posted advisories before entering the water.
