*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Essen is a city in the North Rhine-Westphalia region of Germany, located on the Emscher River. The Emscher River stretches about 85 kilometers from its source in Holzwickede, to its mouth on the Rhine near Dinslaken. It flows through the heavily industrial Ruhr area, including the city of Essen.
The water temperature in the Emscher River can vary, depending on the time of year, but generally, it is quite chilly. Unlike some other rivers, it does not benefit from any thermal springs, which could increase the temperature. The water quality of the Emscher River has traditionally been very poor as a result of pollution and waste from the surrounding industrial areas. For many years, it was considered one of the most polluted rivers in Germany, which made swimming in it not only unpleasant but potentially hazardous.
In more recent years, nevertheless, concerted efforts have been made to clean up the Emscher river and these initiatives have seen some successes. However, the river is still not considered safe for swimming due to its industrial past and ongoing concerns about water quality. While the situation is improving, it is advisable to only swim in designated public swimming areas in Essen and to avoid natural bodies of water unless they are specifically declared safe for swimming by local authorities.
