*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Bottrop is a city located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, specifically situated on the Emscher River. The Emscher River, running through Bottrop, is the largest right tributary of the River Rhine and has been significantly impacted by industrialization, which has affected the quality and temperature of its waters. The water temperature of the Emscher River varies considerably depending on the season. During the summer months, the river's water can warm up to about 17-20 °C (63-68 °F), while in winter, it can drop near to zero.
However, despite the summer temperatures being potentially suitable for swimming, it is generally not recommended to swim in the Emscher River. The river, due to its history as a sewage canal for the Ruhr Area during the last century, has long been heavily polluted. Although extensive modernization and cleaning efforts have begun to revert this situation since the late 20th century, the river still carries wastewater and its quality does not yet meet the standards for safe swimming. It's advisable for swimmers to choose a safer alternative such as a public swimming pool or a closely monitored lake in the region.
