** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Montana (Монтана) is a northwestern Bulgarian city near the Ogosta reservoir and several smaller lakes and ponds. Water temperatures in the larger reservoir vary seasonally: in spring (March–May) surface temperatures commonly range from about 8–15 °C (46–59 °F) as the water warms; early summer (June) typically reaches 18–22 °C (64–72 °F); the warmest months, July and August, often see 22–26 °C (72–79 °F) at the surface; autumn cooling in September–October brings temperatures back toward 10–18 °C (50–64 °F); in winter surface temperatures fall close to freezing, roughly 0–5 °C (32–41 °F), and parts of the reservoir may ice over in cold years. Actual temperatures depend on depth, recent weather, and water inflow, so local measurements can differ.
Swimming in and around the lake is practiced by locals during the warm months, but formal municipal beaches and lifeguard services are limited. In principle bathing is allowed in many informal spots, yet safety and water quality vary: steep banks, submerged obstacles, boat traffic, fluctuating water levels and occasional water-quality advisories can make some areas unsuitable. Visitors should follow local signs and guidance, avoid swimming alone, and heed official restrictions when they are posted, especially outside the warm summer period when cold water and currents increase risk.
