** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Varde Å is a modest Danish river whose temperature varies with season, groundwater feed and proximity to the estuary. Typical spring temperatures (March–May) range from about 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) as snowmelt and cool groundwater dominate. In summer (June–August) surface water commonly warms to roughly 15–22 °C (59–72 °F) in sheltered, shallow stretches, though cooler currents can persist in deeper or spring-fed sections. Autumn (September–November) sees a decline to roughly 8–14 °C (46–57 °F), and winter (December–February) temperatures often hover near freezing to about 0–4 °C (32–39 °F), especially during cold spells. Local variations occur with weather, river depth and tidal influence near the mouth.
Swimming in Varde Å is generally possible where access is provided and at informal bathing spots, but conditions and suitability vary. Water quality at designated sites is periodically assessed by local authorities, yet agricultural runoff, recent heavy rain or strong currents can make some reaches less pleasant or unsafe. Shallow, slow-flowing stretches are the most inviting for bathing in summer, while caution is advised near weirs, sluices and estuarine channels. Always check local signage or municipal information before entering the water, and be mindful of temperature shock in cooler seasons.
