** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Skjern Å, the main river in the Central Denmark Region, shows clear seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter temperatures commonly sit just above freezing, around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F). Spring brings a steady rise, typically to about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F) as daylight lengthens. In summer the shallow stretches and backwaters can warm to roughly 18–22 °C (64–72 °F), while the main channel often ranges from 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) depending on flow and weather. Autumn cooling is gradual, with temperatures often falling to around 6–14 °C (43–57 °F). Local conditions—depth, flow rate, recent rainfall and groundwater inputs—cause notable variation along the river and between years.
Swimming in Skjern Å is possible in many accessible spots and is not broadly prohibited, but whether it is advisable depends on location and timing. Water quality is generally good in restored reaches, and some designated bathing areas are monitored during summer; however agricultural runoff after heavy rain can temporarily reduce quality. Currents, variable depths, submerged vegetation and boat traffic create safety considerations, and parts of the river lie within protected nature reserves where access or swimming may be restricted to protect wildlife. Always check local signage, official bathing information and current conditions before entering the water.
