The Seyhan River (Seyhan Nehri) is a major Mediterranean‑fed river of southern Turkey that mostly runs through Adana province rather than Mersin. Water temperature in the Seyhan varies with season, depth and dam operations. Typical surface temperatures range roughly from 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in winter, 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) in spring, 18–25 °C (64–77 °F) in summer and 12–18 °C (54–64 °F) in autumn. These are approximate values; shallow, slow stretches warm more in summer, while releases from reservoirs and snowmelt in the Taurus Mountains keep some reaches markedly cooler even in warm months.
Swimming in the main channel of the Seyhan is generally discouraged and in many places effectively restricted because of factors such as strong currents, fluctuating flows from dams, water quality concerns from urban and agricultural runoff, and underwater hazards near bridges and intake structures. There are occasional, regulated recreational areas and reservoirs where supervised water activities are permitted, but local rules, posted warnings and water-quality reports should be consulted before entering the water. Temperature alone may be suitable in summer for experienced swimmers in calm, safe spots, but safety and cleanliness are the primary considerations.
