** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Sella River (Spanish: Río Sella) in Asturias is a mountain-fed watercourse whose temperature reflects seasonal runoff and Atlantic influence. In winter the water is cold, commonly around 6–9 °C (43–48 °F). Spring sees a gradual rise as snowmelt and rains increase flow, typically between 8–14 °C (46–57 °F). In the warmest weeks of summer surface temperatures can reach roughly 14–20 °C (57–68 °F) in slower pools and wider stretches, though shaded or fast-flowing sections remain noticeably cooler. Autumn temperatures usually fall back to about 10–15 °C (50–59 °F) as rains return and daylight shortens.
Swimming in the Sella is generally possible and popular in accessible, calmer areas, especially during summer when temperatures are highest and municipalities maintain informal bathing spots. There is no blanket prohibition over the entire river, but use is conditioned by local rules, signage and safety concerns: strong current, variable depth, sudden rises after rain, and colder water can create hazards. Many people swim in natural pools near towns such as Arriondas and Ribadesella where access and parking exist, and local authorities sometimes regulate specific sections during events or high flow. Visitors should check local information and exercise caution, particularly outside the warmest months.
