** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Río Narcea, a mountain-fed river in Asturias, tends to be cooler than coastal or Mediterranean waters because it drains upland terrain and receives snowmelt and rainfall year-round. Typical seasonal surface temperatures range roughly from 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in winter, 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) in spring, 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) in summer, and 8–14 °C (46–57 °F) in autumn. These figures vary with depth, flow speed and local exposure: shallow, slow pools and downstream stretches warm more in summer, while fast, shaded or high-altitude reaches remain markedly colder even on hot days. Heavy rains and spring snowmelt can also lower temperatures and increase turbidity temporarily.
Swimming in the Río Narcea is commonly practiced in suitable sections, but it is not uniformly regulated as a single bathing area and local restrictions may apply. Many natural swimming spots are accessible and allowed because there is no blanket prohibition, yet some reaches are protected for fish conservation, near dams or reservoirs, or marked for safety where currents, depth changes and low temperatures present risks. Cold-water shock is the main concern at much of the river year-round, so swimmers should choose calm, supervised or well-known locations, check local signage and conditions, and be mindful that water quality and access can change seasonally.
