*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Santerno, a river in Emilia-Romagna (called Santerno in Italian), runs from the Apennine slopes down through towns such as Imola and Faenza before reaching the Po plain. Water temperatures vary substantially with season and location: in the upland reaches winter temperatures commonly range from about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F), while lowland stretches in winter can be a few degrees warmer. Spring typically brings temperatures of roughly 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as snowmelt and rainfall raise flows. In summer, shallow and slow-moving sections may warm to approximately 18–26 °C (64–79 °F) on hot afternoons, though deeper or shaded pools remain cooler. Autumn cooling usually produces temperatures in the 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) range.
Swimming in the Santerno is possible in many calm stretches and in natural pools, but it is not universally recommended or permitted everywhere. Local regulations, water quality monitoring, and safety concerns determine where bathing is allowed; hazards include strong currents near weirs, sudden releases from upstream reservoirs, submerged obstacles, and degraded water quality after heavy rains. Low summer flows can concentrate pollutants and increase temperature, affecting comfort and safety. Visitors should follow municipal signage, heed any formal prohibitions, and avoid swimming near hydraulic works or after storm events.
