** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Montone is a relatively small Apennine river in Emilia‑Romagna whose water temperature varies with season, weather and local depth. In winter the river commonly runs cold, roughly 4–8 °C (39–46 °F). Spring temperatures tend to rise to about 8–16 °C (46–61 °F) as flows moderate and air temperatures climb. In summer the main stretches can warm further, typically 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), and in shallow, sun‑exposed pools temperatures can occasionally reach the mid‑20s °C (around 77–81 °F). Autumn sees cooling again, generally in the 10–16 °C (50–61 °F) range. These figures are approximate; local rainfall, shading, groundwater inputs and flow rate have a strong influence on the actual temperature at any given spot.
Swimming in the Montone is possible in many rural stretches and is often done informally in summer when temperatures are more comfortable, but it is not uniformly regulated as official municipal bathing water. Whether swimming is advisable depends on current water quality, flow speed and riverbed conditions: after heavy rain currents, turbidity and pollution risks increase, and some stretches have steep banks, rocks or sudden drops. Visitors should follow local signage, heed any municipal advisories or water‑quality reports, and exercise basic river safety if choosing to swim.
