*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Dee in Galloway, a beautiful waterway in Dumfries and Galloway, offers numerous spots for wild swimming, primarily in its quieter reaches and associated lochs like Loch Ken. As a Scottish river, its water temperatures are typically low, ranging from a frigid 2∘C to 5∘C (36∘F to 41∘F) in the winter months. Even during the summer, the temperature rarely exceeds 15∘C to 17∘C (59∘F to 63∘F) in the calmer pools, ensuring a brisk and invigorating experience.
Swimming is generally allowed in the River Dee and other Scottish inland waters under the national Scottish Outdoor Access Code, which extends access rights to activities like swimming, subject to exercising caution and responsibility. However, the river can become fast-flowing and dangerous, particularly after heavy rainfall, so care is essential. The river flows through or near the Galloway Forest Park, a major attraction known for its walking trails and designation as a Dark Sky Park, providing ample opportunity for activities before or after a cold dip.
