*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Boyne flows through Counties Kildare, Meath, and Louth in eastern Ireland before reaching the Irish Sea at Drogheda. Its water temperature changes moderately with the seasons, influenced by its inland flow and the temperate maritime climate. In winter, temperatures usually range between 4–6°C (39–43°F), while in summer they rise to about 15–18°C (59–64°F). On warm, calm days in July or August, shallow stretches may briefly reach 19°C (66°F), but deeper sections and shaded bends stay cooler. The river’s clean, slow-moving waters make it most comfortable for swimming from late May to early September, when air temperatures are mild and daylight is longest.
Swimming in the River Boyne is allowed, and certain stretches near Trim, Slane, and Drogheda are popular for open-water swimming and short recreational dips. However, swimmers should take care around weirs, bridges, and fast-flowing areas, especially after rainfall. The water is generally of good quality, and local swimming groups often organize safe, supervised events during the summer. Beyond swimming, the Boyne Valley is rich in history and natural beauty. Nearby attractions include the ancient monuments of Newgrange, Knowth, and Dowth, as well as Slane Castle and the scenic Boyne Greenway, offering visitors a mix of culture, heritage, and outdoor enjoyment.
