*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The River Slaney flows from Lugnaquilla Mountain in County Wicklow through Carlow and Wexford before reaching the sea at Wexford Harbour. Its water temperature reflects the mild, variable climate of southeastern Ireland. In winter, the river averages around 4–7°C (39–45°F), depending on altitude and flow rate, while in summer it warms to about 15–18°C (59–64°F). On particularly sunny days in sheltered sections near Bunclody or Enniscorthy, surface temperatures can briefly reach 19°C (66°F). The upper river tends to remain cooler due to mountain runoff, while the lower tidal stretches closer to the coast are slightly milder, especially in late summer. These conditions make swimming most comfortable between June and early September, when both air and water are at their warmest.
Swimming in the River Slaney is permitted in several places, though it should be done with caution. The water quality is generally good, but the river’s flow can vary, especially after rain. Locals often swim in calm, shallow stretches during warm weather, while open-water enthusiasts use wider sections near Enniscorthy. Wetsuits are recommended outside midsummer. Beyond swimming, the Slaney valley offers scenic walks, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Nearby attractions include Enniscorthy Castle, the Blackstairs Mountains, and the beaches of Wexford, making the area ideal for outdoor recreation.
