** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Prahova, a river in central Romania, is largely mountain-fed and shows clear seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the water commonly sits around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in upper reaches and only slightly warmer downstream. Spring brings snowmelt and cooling flows with typical temperatures of about 4–12 °C (39–54 °F), while summer is the warmest period: shallow, slow sections in the lower course can reach roughly 18–24 °C (64–75 °F), whereas higher-altitude stretches often remain cooler, around 10–16 °C (50–61 °F). In autumn the river generally falls back to about 6–14 °C (43–57 °F) as air temperatures decline and flows increase.
Swimming in the Prahova is possible in some stretches during the warmer months, but it is not universally encouraged. Many upper, fast-flowing sections are cold and potentially hazardous because of strong currents, rocks and sudden depth changes, while water quality can vary after rain or near settlements. Local rules, signage and occasional bans at specific sites are common, and organized bathing areas or reservoirs may be safer when available. Anyone choosing to swim should assess currents, water clarity and temperature, avoid isolated spots, and follow local guidance to reduce risk.
