The Hornád River flows from Slovakia into northeastern Hungary, passing through a mostly natural and rural landscape before joining the Sajó. In Hungary, the river is relatively narrow and its flow can vary, which affects both the water quality and its suitability for bathing. During the summer, the temperature of the Hornád usually rises to around 19–22°C, offering refreshing but somewhat cool conditions for swimming. Because of the variable current and occasional muddiness, it is not widely used as an official bathing river.
Locals may still enjoy wading or taking a dip in calmer sections when the weather is hot, but for proper swimming most people prefer nearby lakes, reservoirs, or pools where the conditions are more predictable. The Hornád in Hungary is appreciated more for fishing, canoeing, and its scenic value rather than as a destination for regular swimming.
