Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

The Rimava River, flowing through southern and central Slovakia, is a lowland river with moderate water temperatures. In spring, the water is usually cool, around 12–15 °C, influenced by rainfall and melting snow from the surrounding hills. By the height of summer, shallow sections of the river can warm up to 20–23 °C, providing pleasant conditions for brief swims or wading, though deeper parts remain cooler.
Direct swimming in the Rimava river itself is generally not a common or organised activity. While the river is clean in many stretches, most locals and visitors opt for the nearby recreational area of Kurinec – Zelená Voda, which is just a short distance from Rimavská Sobota. This complex, which uses the local water reservoir (not the main river flow) and pools, offers a much more comfortable swimming experience, including pools with geothermally heated water up to about 33°C. Therefore, while the Rimava is a picturesque natural feature, for those seeking enjoyable swimming, the regulated recreational facilities are the preferred choice.
