The Rimava River, flowing through southern and central Slovakia, is a lowland river with moderate water temperatures. In spring, the water is usually cool, around 12–15 °C, influenced by rainfall and melting snow from the surrounding hills. By the height of summer, shallow sections of the river can warm up to 20–23 °C, providing pleasant conditions for brief swims or wading, though deeper parts remain cooler.
Direct swimming in the Rimava river itself is generally not a common or organised activity. While the river is clean in many stretches, most locals and visitors opt for the nearby recreational area of Kurinec – Zelená Voda, which is just a short distance from Rimavská Sobota. This complex, which uses the local water reservoir (not the main river flow) and pools, offers a much more comfortable swimming experience, including pools with geothermally heated water up to about 33°C. Therefore, while the Rimava is a picturesque natural feature, for those seeking enjoyable swimming, the regulated recreational facilities are the preferred choice.
