** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

The Río Esla in Castile and León is a largely mountain-fed river whose water temperature varies considerably with season, altitude and the influence of reservoirs and tributaries. In winter the river commonly drops to about 4–8 °C (39–46 °F) in higher or fast-flowing reaches, while lower and slower sections may sit around 6–10 °C (43–50 °F). Spring brings a gradual warming, often in the 6–14 °C range (43–57 °F) as snowmelt and rains increase flow. In summer, sheltered pools, backwaters and some lower stretches warmed by sunshine and reduced flow can reach roughly 14–22 °C (57–72 °F), though main channels in shaded or faster sections often remain cooler. Autumn temperatures typically fall back toward 8–14 °C (46–57 °F).
Swimming in the Río Esla is possible in many places and is practiced locally, especially in summer where warmer, calmer pools make bathing comfortable. However, it is not universally permitted or safe: dam outlets, strong currents, steep banks and sudden releases from reservoirs create hazards, and water quality may vary near towns or agricultural runoff. Municipal ordinances and protected areas can restrict bathing, so swimmers should look for designated bathing spots, obey signage, be aware of hypothermia risk in cold reaches, and avoid areas below dams or where currents are strong.
