** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Drammenselva, the main river running through the former Buskerud area, shows marked seasonal variation in water temperature. In winter the river hovers close to freezing, commonly around 0–4 °C (32–39 °F) in open stretches, while spring thaw and snowmelt raise temperatures to roughly 4–12 °C (39–54 °F). In the warmest months, especially July and August, slower and shallower parts of the river can reach about 15–20 °C (59–68 °F), though deep or fast-flowing sections remain cooler. Autumn brings a steady decline, with temperatures typically falling back to the 6–12 °C (43–54 °F) range before ice forms in colder winters. Local conditions such as depth, current, shading and recent weather can shift these values by several degrees.
Swimming in Drammenselva is possible and commonly practiced at designated spots and informal bathing areas when temperatures are suitable, but it is not universally advisable everywhere along the river. Water quality has improved over past decades, yet can vary after heavy rain because of runoff and occasional sewage overflows, and industrial or urban influences persist in some reaches. Strong currents, boat traffic and low visibility in deeper channels create safety risks and cold-water shock remains a concern outside the warmest weeks. Therefore swimming is generally allowed where signs or facilities indicate, but best practice is to use marked bathing sites, heed local advisories, and take precautions for currents and temperature.
