** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The river Snarumselva in Buskerud County is a typical southern Norwegian watercourse with pronounced seasonal temperature shifts. During winter the water often sits near freezing, roughly 0–2 °C (32–36 °F), and spring snowmelt keeps it cold through April and May, commonly 1–10 °C (34–50 °F). In summer sheltered pools and slower stretches can warm to about 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) on warm days, though the main current usually remains cooler. Come autumn the river cools again, with temperatures falling to around 4–10 °C (39–50 °F) as air temperatures drop. These figures are approximate and vary with local weather, depth, shading, and the influence of tributaries and reservoirs.
Swimming in Snarumselva is generally possible and not formally banned in most places, but it requires caution. Water quality and safety vary along the river and by season, and signs or local rules may restrict access in certain stretches. Fast currents, underwater obstacles and sudden flow changes from hydropower releases or dam operations make some sections hazardous, and cold temperatures even in summer increase the risk of cold shock. For safe swimming choose calm, shallow areas, check local advice or signage, and be mindful of rapid temperature changes and water conditions before entering.
