*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
The Lake of Zaros (Λίμνη Ζαρού) is a small, spring-fed lake in central Crete whose water temperature varies with the seasons and the influence of cool groundwater. Typical surface temperatures in winter range from about 9–13 °C (48–55 °F), spring sees a rise to roughly 12–18 °C (54–64 °F), summer surface values commonly reach 20–25 °C (68–77 °F) on warm days, and autumn cools back to about 16–20 °C (61–68 °F). Because the lake is fed by mountain springs and sits at modest elevation, it stays cooler than the nearby sea even in summer, and deeper or shaded spots can remain noticeably cold.
Swimming at Zaros is limited and often discouraged for practical and regulatory reasons. The lake and surrounding wetland are valued for local water supply, wildlife habitat and recreational facilities, so municipal rules and signage may prohibit bathing; water quality and underwater vegetation can also make swimming less pleasant or safe. Visitors who want to enter the water should check current local information and posted rules; while some locals may wade or take a quick dip in hot weather, official access for swimming is not as developed as on Crete’s beaches and is subject to seasonal and administrative restrictions.
