*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Tholocco is a 640-acre recreational lake located on the grounds of Fort Novosel (formerly Fort Rucker) in southeast Alabama. Given its location, the water temperature experiences a wide seasonal swing. During the summer months, typically from May through September, the surface water is quite warm, often reaching into the high 20s and low 30s Celsius, which is equivalent to the mid-80s to 90∘F range. Conversely, in the winter, the lake cools significantly, with temperatures likely dropping to the 7∘C to 13∘C (45∘F to 55∘F) range, making it too cold for casual water activities.
Swimming is strictly controlled and only permitted in designated areas of Lake Tholocco. Unlike many large public lakes, this body of water is managed by the Army Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) for the military installation. The West Beach swim area is the primary, safe, and authorized location for swimming. Importantly, Fort Novosel regulations explicitly state that swimming is only allowed when a lifeguard is present and is not permitted at one's own risk anywhere on the lake. This restriction is primarily for safety, ensuring that swimmers are protected from boat traffic and other hazards, particularly during the peak summer season when the beach is operational.
