** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Wabedo Lake in north-central Minnesota follows the same seasonal water temperature patterns common to inland lakes in the region. In spring, surface temperatures typically rise from the low 40s to around 60°F (5–16°C) as ice melts and the sun warms the shallows. By early summer the surface commonly reaches the 60s to low 70s°F (16–23°C), with the warmest period in late July and August when surface readings often climb into the mid-70s°F (around 24°C) and on hot afternoons can approach the upper 70s°F (25–26°C). In fall the surface cools back into the 50s–60s°F (10–16°C) range, and under winter ice the water directly beneath the ice stays just above freezing, roughly 34–39°F (1–4°C).
Swimming is generally allowed on Wabedo Lake because it is a recreational waterbody with shoreline access used by visitors and residents, but there may not be lifeguards or formally supervised beaches. The warmest and most comfortable swimming window is late July through August when surface temperatures are in the mid-70s°F (around 24°C). Cooler springs and autumns are brisk and less pleasant for casual swimming, and winter conditions make swimming unsafe without specialized gear due to near-freezing water temperatures and ice hazards. As always, check local advisories and use standard safety precautions when entering the water.
