❌ As of today, the minimum water temperature ranges from 47°F (8°C) to 50°F (10°C). This is still cool water, suitable only for experienced swimmers or those accustomed to cold water. Swimming in such conditions is possible, but not recommended for prolonged periods. Extra caution should be taken during extended exposure, as the cold water can cause heat loss and lead to hypothermia. For added comfort, special clothing can be used. It is important to note that these swimming tips and recommendations apply only in good weather. When the air temperature is below 68°F (20°C), and sometimes even below 77°F (25°C), swimming can be unpleasant even with relatively high water temperatures.

** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Vasslivatnet in Trøndelag County is a typical Norwegian inland lake and its water temperatures vary a lot through the year. In spring (April–May) surface temperatures commonly range from about 1–8 °C (34–46 °F) as snowmelt and cool air keep the lake cold. By early summer (June) temperatures often climb to roughly 8–15 °C (46–59 °F), while the warmest weeks in July and August can see surface temperatures between about 12–20 °C (54–68 °F) on sunny years; occasionally the shallow parts warm a little higher. In autumn the lake cools back to roughly 6–12 °C (43–54 °F), and in winter Vasslivatnet typically freezes or sits very near 0 °C (32 °F), making open-water swimming unsafe.
Swimming at Vasslivatnet is generally allowed and practicable during the warmer months thanks to Norway’s public right of access (allemannsretten) and the lake’s natural shoreline, but conditions determine whether it’s advisable. There are usually no lifeguards or marked bathing facilities, so swimmers should consider water temperature, sudden depth changes, weather, and water quality. Cold-water shock is a real risk early and late in the season, and ice-covered conditions in winter make swimming hazardous without specialist equipment and experience.
