Location & Local Information
Štrbské Pleso, located high in the Slovak High Tatras, is a mountain lake that is more famous for its scenery than for swimming. Because of its altitude of around 1,350 meters, the water temperature even in summer rarely rises above 15–16°C. For most visitors, this is far too cold for comfortable bathing, so the lake is not generally used for swimming. Instead, people enjoy walking around its shores, taking boat rides, or simply admiring the crystal-clear water against the backdrop of the peaks.
While open-water swimming is not a common activity here, the area still offers a refreshing experience. Brave swimmers may take a quick dip during the warmest summer days, but the icy water makes it more of a challenge than leisure. For those who want to relax, the nearby hotels and wellness centers provide much warmer and safer options to enjoy water.
