** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Stonelick Lake, located in southwestern Ohio within Stonelick State Park, experiences the typical seasonal temperature swings of a midwestern reservoir. In spring the surface water often runs cool, roughly 40–60°F (4–16°C) as the lake stratifies. By early to mid‑summer surface temperatures commonly rise into the high 60s to upper 70s °F (20–26°C), and on warm spells can reach the low 80s °F (27–28°C). Early fall sees a gradual cooling back toward about 55–70°F (13–21°C), while winter temperatures at the surface approach freezing, around 32–40°F (0–4°C), with occasional ice cover in colder winters. These ranges vary year to year with air temperature, sunlight, and recent rainfall.
Swimming is permitted in the designated beach area of Stonelick State Park during the official swimming season when the beach is open and lifeguards are on duty, but access is subject to change for safety or water‑quality reasons. Park staff monitor conditions and may close the beach for elevated bacterial counts, harmful algal blooms (cyanobacteria), storm events, or other hazards. Water temperature plays a direct role in comfort and safety: cooler spring and fall waters increase risk of cold‑water shock or hypothermia, while summer temperatures are most comfortable for recreational swimming. Visitors should follow posted advisories and park rules.
