** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Okemah’s lake waters follow the pattern typical of small Central Oklahoma reservoirs, with surface temperatures rising and falling with the seasons and daily weather. In winter the lake often cools to roughly 40–55°F (4–13°C). Spring brings warming to about 55–70°F (13–21°C) as air temperatures moderate, while midsummer surface readings commonly reach 75–90°F (24–32°C) in warm years. By fall the water typically declines to the 60–75°F range (16–24°C) before winter chill sets in. Actual temperatures vary by depth, recent rainfall, and local conditions; shallow bays warm and cool faster than the main basin.
Swimming at the lake is generally permitted as part of its recreational use, but it is often done at personal risk since many smaller lakes do not maintain lifeguards or formal beach facilities. Authorities may close or discourage swimming occasionally for safety reasons such as high winds, dangerous currents near boat areas, submerged hazards, poor visibility, bacterial contamination, or harmful algal blooms. For comfortable swimming, late spring through early fall—when surface temperatures are in the mid-60s to upper 80s °F (around 18–30°C)—is best, and visitors should heed posted advisories and exercise typical water-safety precautions.
