*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Skaha Lake, located in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia between the towns of Penticton and Okanagan Falls, is known for its warm, clean waters and long summer season. The region’s semi-arid climate contributes to relatively high water temperatures compared to most lakes in British Columbia. In early spring, around April, the lake remains cool at about 46–50°F (8–10°C), gradually warming as the season progresses. By late May and June, surface temperatures typically reach 59–68°F (15–20°C). During the peak of summer, from mid-July through August, Skaha Lake often reaches its warmest levels, ranging between 72–77°F (22–25°C), making it ideal for swimming and water sports. As autumn arrives, the lake cools again, dropping below 59°F (15°C) by late September.
Swimming is allowed and widely enjoyed in Skaha Lake, especially along the sandy beaches in Penticton and Okanagan Falls, where water conditions are generally calm and inviting. The combination of warm water, soft sand, and scenic surroundings attracts both families and recreational swimmers. Lifeguards are often present at designated beaches during summer, adding a layer of safety. The best swimming period is from late June through early September, when both air and water temperatures are most comfortable and the lake offers excellent recreational conditions.
