*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Christina Lake, situated in the Kootenay Boundary region of British Columbia, is celebrated as the warmest tree-lined lake in the province. This is due to the region's warm, dry summers and the lake’s bathymetry. In the peak summer months, surface water temperatures reach a comfortable range for extended swimming, typically averaging around 22∘C to 23∘C (71∘F to 73.4∘F), with highs occasionally reaching 25∘C (77∘F). Conversely, the deep water remains cool, and in the winter, the surface cools dramatically, dropping to the range of 0∘C to 5∘C (32∘F to 41∘F), often resulting in ice cover.
Swimming is widely permitted and highly popular at Christina Lake, as it is a major summer recreation destination. The lake’s clean, clear water and relatively shallow swimming areas, such as the sandy beach at Christina Lake Provincial Park, make it ideal for families. The Provincial Park beach even features a shallow swimming area marked with buoys. While swimming is encouraged, especially in designated areas, there are no official lifeguards on duty at the public beaches, meaning all swimming is done at one's own risk. Interior Health monitors the water quality, particularly during the summer season, and may issue advisories if bacterial levels exceed safe limits.
