** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lago de Sanabria is the largest glacial lake in Spain and keeps cold, clear water year-round. Surface temperatures vary markedly with the seasons: in winter the lake typically drops to about 2–6 °C (36–43 °F), spring brings gradual warming to roughly 6–14 °C (43–57 °F), summer surface highs commonly reach 16–24 °C (61–75 °F) on warm days, and autumn cools back to approximately 10–16 °C (50–61 °F). Because the lake is relatively deep and fed by mountain streams, deeper layers remain much colder than the surface even in summer, and temperature stratification can produce sharp drops below a few meters.
Swimming in Lago de Sanabria (Lago de Sanabria) is allowed and is a popular activity in the warmer months, especially in designated bathing areas. Local authorities regulate access within the natural park to protect water quality and habitats, so swimming is concentrated where signage and facilities exist. Bathers should be aware of the cold water risks—rapid heat loss and possible hypothermia—as well as changing weather and depth. Many visitors find summer swims comfortable for brief dips, while longer swims may require a wetsuit and caution; always follow posted rules and local guidance when entering the water.
