** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Perry Lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir in northeastern Kansas, experiences a pronounced seasonal cycle in surface water temperature. In winter the lake often cools to near freezing up to the low 40s °F (0–5 °C). Spring temperatures typically rise through the mid 40s to mid 60s °F (7–18 °C) as runoff and warming air increase lake temperature. By summer the surface commonly reaches the 70s to mid-80s °F (21–29 °C), with the warmest periods offering the most comfortable conditions for swimming. Fall cooling returns surface readings into the 50s and lower 70s °F (10–22 °C) as air temperatures decline and mixing increases.
Swimming at Perry Lake is permitted in recreational areas and at designated swim beaches because the reservoir is managed for multiple uses, including public recreation. However, there are practical safety considerations: water quality can vary, lifeguards are often not provided, and sudden temperature changes, underwater drop-offs, boat traffic and currents near inlets can pose hazards. Cold late-winter or early-spring water temperatures also raise the risk of cold-water shock, so most people choose to swim during the warm summer months when surface temperatures are in the 70s–80s °F (21–29 °C).
