*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Otter Creek Reservoir, located in central Utah within Otter Creek State Park, experiences a broad seasonal range of surface-water temperatures driven by elevation and local climate. In winter the lake commonly approaches freezing, with surface readings around 32–40°F (0–4°C) and ice forming some years. Spring warming typically brings temperatures into the 40–55°F range (4–13°C) as snowmelt and cooler air persist. Peak summer surface values most often fall between roughly 60–75°F (15–24°C), although deeper or shaded portions of the reservoir remain noticeably cooler. By autumn the water cools again, often ranging from about 45–60°F (7–15°C) as air temperatures drop and thermal stratification breaks down.
Swimming at Otter Creek Reservoir is generally permitted because the site is managed as a recreation area and includes access points and beaches intended for public use. However, conditions vary by season and year: water frequently feels chilly even in summer, increasing the risk of cold-water shock or hypothermia, and occasional closures or advisories can be posted for safety or water-quality reasons. Visitors are advised to use designated swimming areas, heed park signage, and check current conditions with park staff before entering the water.
