*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Powell, a vast reservoir on the Colorado River straddling the border of Arizona and Utah, is known for its red sandstone canyons and striking desert scenery. Because of its elevation and size, the lake’s water temperature varies widely through the year. During winter, surface temperatures usually range between 46 and 54°F (8–12°C), remaining too cool for most swimmers but suitable for boating and fishing. In spring, as air temperatures rise, the lake warms gradually to around 60–70°F (16–21°C) by late May. During the peak of summer, Lake Powell reaches its warmest period, with surface temperatures averaging between 78 and 83°F (26–28°C) in July and August. In autumn, the water cools again to about 65–72°F (18–22°C), staying comfortable for outdoor activities into early October before dropping back toward winter values.
Swimming is allowed throughout Lake Powell and is one of its most popular activities during the warm months. The lake’s clear water, extensive shoreline, and numerous secluded coves make it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and other water recreation. Because the lake is large and managed for water storage and hydropower, swimmers should be mindful of boat traffic and steep rocky drop-offs along the shore. Overall, Lake Powell offers excellent swimming opportunities during late spring and summer, with water warm enough for extended stays even in the desert heat.
