** Average - Average water temperature on this day in recent years
*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Fort Gibson Lake, a reservoir in northeastern Oklahoma, experiences a wide seasonal swing in surface water temperatures. In winter the lake surface commonly falls into the 40–50°F range (about 4–10°C), while spring warming brings temperatures up through the 50s and 60s°F (10–20°C). Peak summer conditions often push surface readings into the mid-70s to mid-80s°F and occasionally into the low 90s°F (about 24–32°C), especially in shallow bays on hot, calm days. During autumn the water cools again, typically settling in the 60s°F (15–20°C) before dropping toward winter levels. Local factors such as depth, wind, recent rainfall, and time of day will influence conditions, so actual temperatures at a chosen swim spot can differ from general averages.
Swimming at Fort Gibson Lake is permitted in public park areas and along many accessible shorelines, and warm summer temperatures make it a popular recreational activity. However, there are few staffed lifeguard beaches, and safety can be affected by boat traffic, underwater hazards, sudden drop-offs, and occasional water-quality advisories (for example, algal blooms). Because of colder winter temperatures and the risk of hypothermia, swimming is generally not recommended outside the warmer months. Visitors should follow posted rules, heed local advisories, and use personal flotation devices as appropriate.
