Navariya Lake, also known as the Shyrets Reservoir, is a popular recreational spot near Lviv. This water body is sizable, with an average depth of about 3.6 meters and a maximum depth of up to 7.8 meters. The water temperature in Navariya Lake during the summer generally reaches values comfortable for swimming. Given its size and depth, the surface layer of water likely warms up to about +21 to +23∘C in the peak summer months of July and August, which is quite suitable for water activities.
Despite the presence of several beach areas (both paid and free) and the active recreational use of the lake, swimming in it is officially not recommended. Navariya Lake was historically created for technical needs (specifically for the Lviv TPP-1) and for regulating the flow of the Shchyrka River. Therefore, although people do swim there, authorities and environmental bodies do not always guarantee that the water quality meets the sanitary standards for mass bathing. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve the ecological condition of the reservoir and establish a sports and wellness zone here, particularly for the rehabilitation of military personnel.
Thus, swimming opportunities exist at Navariya Lake, as its shores are equipped with sandy sections and recreational areas. However, the main feature and popular form of leisure here is not so much swimming as active water recreation: SUP boarding, kayaking, and canoeing, as well as fishing. Visitors should be cautious and be aware that, despite the scenic views and infrastructure, swimming in the reservoir is officially not recommended.
