*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Namekagon Lake in northern Wisconsin experiences a typical seasonal progression of water temperatures associated with inland glacial lakes. In summer surface temperatures commonly range from about 68–76°F (20–24°C), and during heat spells can briefly climb into the high 70s or low 80s °F (25–27°C). Spring sees a rapid warming from near-freezing runoff and ice-out conditions, with surface readings often between 45–60°F (7–16°C) through May and early June. By autumn the surface cools again, generally dropping into the 50–65°F (10–18°C) band, and in winter the lake is often ice-covered with water beneath the ice typically close to 34–39°F (1–4°C).
Swimming in Namekagon Lake is generally allowed and is a common summer activity because the lake has boat landings, shorelines used for recreation, and suitable summer surface temperatures for bathing. The season for comfortable swimming is relatively short compared with southern lakes, concentrated in midsummer when surface waters reach the mid-60s to mid-70s °F (around 18–24°C). Swimmers should be mindful of variable conditions: sudden temperature drops with depth, changeable weather, local water-quality advisories, and absence of lifeguards at many access points, so practicing usual water-safety precautions is recommended.
