Lake Uluabat (Ulubat Gölü) is a shallow freshwater lake west of Bursa whose surface temperature varies substantially with the seasons because of its low depth and wide reed beds. In winter the water commonly falls to about 4–10 °C (39–50 °F), while spring surface temperatures rise to roughly 10–18 °C (50–64 °F) as air temperatures warm and inflows increase. By summer the shallow basins can warm to around 20–26 °C (68–79 °F), and occasional warm spells push localized surface spots toward the upper 20s °C (about 82 °F). Autumn sees a steady cooling, typically in the 12–18 °C range (54–64 °F), as days shorten and winds mix colder water down the profile.
Swimming in Uluabat is possible in a practical sense but is not widely promoted or organized. The lake’s extensive reeds, muddy bottom and variable water quality from agricultural runoff limit comfortable bathing and clarity, and there are few formal beaches or lifeguard services. Parts of the lake and its surroundings are important habitats for birds and other wildlife, so some areas are protected or managed to minimize disturbance; local residents may bathe in permissive spots, but visitors should be aware of seasonal water conditions, lack of facilities and conservation rules before deciding to swim.
