Lake Jocassee is a deep, clear reservoir in the foothills of the Appalachians, and its water temperatures reflect that depth and mountain location. Surface readings in winter typically fall into the 40–50°F (4–10°C) range, while spring waters commonly warm to about 50–65°F (10–18°C). In summer, surface temperatures most often reach roughly 65–75°F (18–24°C), though conditions vary with weather and wind. Because the lake plunges to great depths, colder layers remain near 50°F (≈10°C) year‑round, so thermoclines can make temperatures drop sharply with depth even on warm days. Clarity can be high, but the bulk of the volume stays cool.
