*** Forecast - Our water temperature forecast
Actual nearshore water temperatures may fluctuate by several degrees from the reported values, especially following heavy rainfall or extended periods of strong winds. Certain wind patterns can cause colder, deeper waters to rise and replace the sun-warmed surface water, leading to noticeable variations.
Our forecast is based on a proprietary mathematical model that considers real-time water temperature changes, historical trends, key weather patterns, wind strength and direction, and air temperature specific to each region. Additionally, we incorporate data from other resorts to enhance accuracy.

Location & Local Information
Lake Herbert G. West, a reservoir on the Columbia River system in Washington, experiences typical Pacific Northwest reservoir temperatures that vary considerably through the year. In spring surface temperatures commonly range from about 40–60°F (4–15°C) as snowmelt and cooler weather dominate. In summer the warmest surface readings are often in the neighborhood of 60–75°F (15–24°C), with shallow, sheltered bays occasionally running a few degrees higher. By fall surface temperatures generally fall back to roughly 45–65°F (7–18°C) and in winter much of the water stays cold, around 34–45°F (1–7°C). Regardless of season, deeper water and shaded or fast-moving channels remain markedly colder than surface readings because reservoirs stratify and receive cool inflows.
Swimming is generally permitted in many parts of Lake Herbert G. West, particularly at public beaches and park units that encourage water recreation, but activity is subject to posted rules and seasonal access. Caution is important: cold water temperatures, sudden drop-offs, submerged structure, boat traffic and currents near dam-related areas create hazards, and there are often no lifeguards. Areas immediately adjacent to dam facilities are typically restricted for safety. Because of these factors swimmers are advised to choose designated swimming spots, wear a life jacket when appropriate, and be mindful of cold-water shock even on warm days.
